Stay Toasty By An Outdoor Wood-Burning Oven

{Copley’s Outdoor Wood-Burning Oven}

What sounds better than sitting outside around a fire with friends and family, while enjoying unique dishes coming straight from an outdoor oven? This casual atmosphere is what is creating an outdoor wood-burning oven trend in restaurants and homes that I can really get behind. Restaurants, and businesses everywhere, are constantly searching for new and exciting changes they can make to keep them current and the “hot” place to go. This emerging trend is not just delicious, but a great way to draw additional crowds.

I know the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of wood-burning ovens is pizza, but these ovens are being used for much much more.  For instance, one of our long time clients, Copley’s restaurant in Palm Springs, is planning a myriad of menu items to showcase Chef Copley’s talent with the new wood-burning oven. These dishes include pancakes for brunch, scallops, salmon, crab cakes, breads, etc. Virtually everything you would make in an indoor oven you can do so in the beautiful outdoors.

I haven’t seen this trend hit many San Diego restaurants, but I’m excited for it to spread, especially when we live in sunny California!

Reaching Audiences Through All Senses

Attending BlogWorld can certainly be overwhelming with the flood of information! During my time there, one session stood out to me not just for the insight, but for the humor and straightforwardness of the speaker, Pat Flynn. Flynn is creator of the site Smart Passive Income Blog.

The stand out for me was that Flynn focused on the two main drivers of traffic to his site: itunes (podcasts) and youtube. I never thought of videos and podcasts as main parts of getting traffic to your site, but it is!

Here are some of his great tips.

YouTube
Flynn suggests adding videos to your blog to supplement some of your current content. Whatever your blog focus, use the tools you are already giving and put them in a video for greater emphasis.

Video tips:
1)   Do your research first
2)   Have a call to action in your video. Maybe you want viewers to go to your site, or sign up for a newsletter. Whatever it is, ask them to do it.
3)   Your video title needs to attract and be keyword rich
4)   Tag your video correctly. You can piggyback on heavily trafficked videos to see their tags.
5)   Pick the right thumbnail. Look at video that are similar and pic a thumbnail that will make your video stand out.

Podcasts
Podcasts are awesome connecting to your audience. People can listen and be tuned in to you anywhere and at anytime. Whether they are in the car, at home or on a plane.

Podcast tips:
1)   Create an outline for each show
2)   Bring guests on for variety
3)   Be concise
4)   Have good sound quality
5)   Try recording unedited for authentic feel
6)   Include great artwork
7)   All copy for the podcast needs to be keyword rich
8)   Have a call to action
9)   Post notes or full transcript of show

There are so many mediums these days to engage with your audience that it may seem a little daunting, but just take one thing per day and before you know it you will be achieving more than you ever thought possible!  It’s not about doing all of it at once, take your time to build your readership through these different channels.

Have you recorded a posdcast or video? What kind of success have you seen? We want to hear about it!

FarmVille Fanatics Team Up With Dreyer’s Fruit Bars to Plant Real Crops

FarmVille players enjoy a taste of reality as they leave the virtual farm to plant a real fruit orchard

This summer, the Dreyer’s Fruit Bars* brand is bringing a taste of real life to the online gaming world.   On June 13, 2011, top players from Zynga’s wildly popular FarmVille game are packing their shovels and leaving their virtual farms behind as they head to rural Farmville, Virginia to plant an actual fruit orchard for the community.

The new orchard in Farmville, VA commemorates a branded integration between Dreyer’s Fruit Bars and FarmVille. From June 13 to June 19, 2011, FarmVille players across the country will plant limited edition Dreyer’s Fruit Bars branded crops within the FarmVille game, earning additional profitability and the opportunity to receive mastery recognition for planting, growing and selling the Fruit Bars crops.

A handful of lucky players have been selected to plant trees in real life, as well.  Sharyn Martinez is among the FarmVille enthusiasts traveling to Farmville, VA to plant a fruit orchard with Dreyer’s Fruit Bars.  “Being from Los Angeles, I thought the only way I’d get to plant an orchard was on my beautiful virtual farm! But now, thanks to Dreyer’s Fruit Bars and Zynga, I am getting ready to dig in and plant fruit trees in the real town of Farmville,” says Sharyn.

The planting in Farmville, VA is an example of Dreyer’s Fruit Bars ongoing commitment to revitalizing one of our most precious resources:  fruit trees. In 2010, Fruit Bars introduced Communities Take Root, an annual program dedicated to planting fruit tree orchards in deserving communities nationwide.  Throughout the summer, Dreyer’s Fruit Bars invites people across the United States to cast their vote to help twenty communities blossom, one orchard at a time.

“Dreyer’s is passionate about helping neighborhoods become greener, healthier and of course, sweeter. We’re thrilled to introduce Fruit Bars and the Communities Take Root program to Farmville’s passionate community, and to support FarmVille players in bring a thriving fruit orchard to the Farmville, VA community,” says Jia Li, Fruit Bars Associate Brand Manager.

To learn more about Dreyer’s Fruit Bars and Communities Take Root, visit www.CommunitiesTakeRoot.com to read the inspiring nominations and cast your vote. The communities with the most votes will receive a fruit tree orchard, which will be planted in partnership with the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to planting fruit trees to support healthy nutrition worldwide.
